All of the major tech sites today are going crazy about a sighting of a new Palm phone that appears to be running webOS.  So far from the details it sounds like the phone is code named “Pixie” and will probably be released later this year as the Palm Eos.  The details are coming in about the phone pretty quickly but that’s not really the Palm news I am interested in.

Earlier today, Inside Sprint Now released some leaked error codes for the Palm webOS.  While that in and of itself is not very interesting, the small print is where the good stuff is.  To get to where you can obtain the error codes is very different from other phones:

Launcher > Device Info > More Info > Menu > Quick Tests

Basically what this indicates is…. Built In Diagnostic Tests!!!!!!!!!!  Usually to get these kind of codes you need to hook a phone up to computer or other diagnostic tool.  Even for most computers you have to run a third-party tool to get some basic information regarding a problem you might be experiencing.

For those of us that like to know what is going on behind the scenes with our electronic devices this is like a slice of heaven. It’s really nice to see a major company like Palm thinking about the end user and not trying to hide possible problems with their devices.
