Jolicloud is one of the best operating systems for Netbooks and now they are making their move to be ready for the tablet wave by adding in touchscreen capability. At this point it won’t work on all touchscreens but I think it is safe to assume they will be expanding the list of capable devices. The following is a short video of their new HTML 5 interface on a Samsung NB30.

One of Windows 7′s touted features is it’s touchscren capabilities but it is not enabled by default in the Windows 7 beta. The good news however for those that want to give it a try and own a touchscreen computer you can get the drivers via Windows Update. You will probably need to run Windows Update manually and even select the drivers in the optional updates section but it should contain the drivers you need as long as you are using a popular model.

The Windows blog points out that many of the applications in Windows 7 have been designed with touch in mind. Many applications have gestures enabled that allows you to access features such as right clicking but using an upward motion for items on the taskbar.

I know many people that have touchscreen computers but they have been slow to catch on and will probably continue to face obstacles as devices such as Google’s Android, iPhone and Palm Pre become popular. It looks like touchscreens have a place but it’s in devices that are much smaller than a notebook computer.

Windows 7 touchscreen opportunity with Intel Cash Register?

Now with Windows 7 release approaching we should start to see manufactures more willing to produce touch enabled devices as it means less work for them on the back end of things.

One of the new features of Windows 7 is it’s touchscreen capabilities. Previously XP and Vista were more or less patched to allow for using a touchscreen which worked but was not the best possible solution. Without a manufactures disk that included all of the drivers for the computer it was a difficult task to get the machine working correctly. Now with Windows 7 release approaching we should start to see manufactures more willing to produce touch enabled devices as it means less work for them on the back end of things.

One such device that is in the design phase and may not actually be released is the Intelligent Cash Register from Intel and Frog Design. The device itself is pretty futuristic as is expected with it’s current usage model. Whether or not devices like this will be running Windows 7 remains to be seen but it is an interesting opportunity for Microsoft.
