The language packs issue in Windows Vista really sucked. Thankfully someone actually took the time to fix Microsoft's blunder and make it so that languages could be installed regardless of the version.

XP mode is cool and I do understand Microsoft gearing it towards enterprises. I think the general publics usage of it would be more along the lines of a novelty and not something necessary.

I find features like xp mode, language packs, and system backup images to be something that everyday users could benefit from. I dont think it makes sense to charge $400 extra for someone who speaks another language to buy ultimate, or if legacy software won't install on vista or 64bit for clients to throw down more money, or something useful like system images that comes default in apple. But maybe its just me.

I look forward to the day where its just one version of ##bit windows XYZ.

I think that with Windows 7 I am only going to buy the standard Home Premium. I was suckered last time into getting Vista Ultimate and the "Ultimate Extras" just ended up being crushed dreams.

One good thing is that some of the things that were previously being developed to be Ultimate Extras will actually see the light of day with Windows 7. The most known of them so far is the Windows Media Center sidebar gadget.

I'm not good at math but those prices don't entirely seem like 50% off.
I with they only had an ultimate version with the only choices of being 32bit or 64bit (and in the future only a 64bit). I can understand some features of ultimate may never be used for the average consumer but they can just be disabled by default. Maybe like an option to enable pro or ultimate. Simple is good.
