If operating systems were paper:

Windows XP:
You open the box. The paper is lightweight and flexible. It performs most job functions adequately, but requres massive amounts of scotch tape to keep older pieces together.

Windows Vista:
You open the box. You quickly find that the box is twice as heavy as it needs to be and the paper doesn’t work with half your printers. Upon inquiring on this, the paper company tells you to replace your printers.

OSX:
The exterior of the box is minimalistic and stylish. Inside is a single, perfectly cut piece of paper that easily fulfills most of your needs. Unfortunately, it will be outdated in 18 months and requires special printers that cost twice as much as the ones you already have.

Ubuntu:
You open the box. Inside is some reasonably sized, clean white paper. It works with your printers and holds up decently. However, if you fiddle with it too much, it has a tendency to rip, and only requires a small piece of scotch tape to fix, but it must be applied just right.

Arch:
You open the box. Inside is a roll of paper and a knife.

Gentoo:
You open the box. Inside is a bunch of wood pulp, some bleach and a small steam roller.
