With the introduction of the new Palm Pre webOS many people are now starting to ask the question of “What about our old applications we still use?”.  As more details are starting to come out regarding the new Palm device it is becoming more clear that Palm took a very large step away from the direction they were previously going with their devices.  As opposed to desktop syncing now the devices are primarily going to be syncing to the web.

With the Palm webOS being based on Linux and standard web formats such as CSS, XHTML and Java Script I would have to assume that this is actually going to be making it easier for people with older Palm applications.  Due to the commonality of these applications it will make it very easy for a programmer to either port over the old applications or even create an emulator to run the older applications.

For those that are upset at Palm for leaving their standard OS behind, if they didn’t do it they would not have a chance in the aggressive smartphone market.  It’s better for a company to leave legacy support behind like Apple does than to always trying to make everyone happy.  By doing this it is much easier for these companies to focus on the new product and make it better for those of us that want to buy it.
