India like many countries has a very large problem with software piracy.  A lot of countries tend to ignore it and just hope the problem goes away on it’s own.  The reason for piracy in a lot of countries is simply economics, the products are just too expensive.  And when things are out of the price range of a normal person and they can’t afford it they simply steal what they perceive as needed.

A group in India called the Free Software Movement has decided to do something about it and created their own operating system specifically designed for those living in India.  The operating system is called e-Swecha which is Debian Linux based and is open source as a result.

Even if your not from Indian you can download the release from the Free Software Movement website and check it out.
