Microsoft has now made it official that Windows 7 will be available for the 2009 holiday season.  Previously they have just been stating that it would be released no more than 3 years after Vista which could put it being released as late as February 2010.

“With early RC testing and extensive partner feedback we’ve received, Windows 7 is tracking well for holiday availability.” – Bill Veghte

Holiday availability of course sounds a little vague but basically that means that it will be finished and in OEM’s hands around August or possibly sooner.  At that point it could be in retail stores as early as October or even September.  The holiday season traditionally kicks off the day after Thanksgiving but supplies typically need to be in place many weeks before this to ease pressures on retail stores.
