Balmer

Last night Steve Balmer made the official announcement that Windows 7 would be released for beta testing this Friday.  The part that no one expected was that it will be a public download on the Windows 7 website.  Basically anyone is going to have the opportunity to test it and give feedback.

This is a big step forward towards transparency for a company like Microsoft.  In the past they have always been afraid of it as there is fear it could incite negative publicity regarding bugs that are present in the beta.  This is a good sign that Microsoft is very satisfied with the last 2 weeks of public feedback regarding the torrent that was leaked to the Internet.

Now the only question is… Why not just make the torrent the official download?
