One of the new features of Windows 7 is Libraries which is supposed to help organize folders of similar types into a “Library” to make them more easily accessible.  I have found myself despising this feature more and more every day.  If you are like me and would like the Libraries icon removed from the desktop you can do it very easily by adding this simple registry key.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]

“{031E4825-7B94-4DC3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}”=dword:00000001

You can either manually add that key yourself (if you know what you are doing) or you can download the registry patch and let it do the work for you.  I have also included the patch to reverse the setting in case you decide at a later date that you want it.
