Best Buy + Palm Pre exclusivity deal? More believable than no deal.

There is a story at Crunch Gear suggesting that Best Buy might be the exclusive retailer with the Palm Pre for the first 60 days of it’s release.  Right now this is still a rumour and hasn’t officially been confirmed but let’s look at a couple of quick points regarding Best Buy.

  • Best Buy loves exclusive deals. Whether the product is a music CD from the Rolling Stones or a phone contract it draws more customers in to their retail stores.
  • This past year Best Buy acquired a 50% stake in Car Phone Warehouse and has since expanded the cell phone selection in most if not all stores.
  • The iPhone is now available at Best Buy as well as the Blackberry.  With the Palm Pre this would give them 3 out of the 4 major phone’s on the market.

If Best Buy does in fact have this deal it will be very big business for them and good for the consumers.  Best Buy is all about attaching accessories on to big item sales which means they will have available a decent selection of Palm Pre accessories. We will have to wait for an official press release or an individual in the know to inform us but I am inclined to believe that this rumor is true.
