palmPalm is getting more attention today as a new video has surfaced that is more than 35 minutes long. One of the things asked during the demonstration is “Does it have copy & paste?” and of course it does, but it’s a sad world when a device does not have these features.  Other features are talked about that have previously not been disclosed.  The video itself has been on youtube for over a month but somehow has been overlooked by the masses.

The demonstration is given by a product manager at Palm and is a nice addition to the video I posted last month. As more of these demonstrations are shown it is obvious that Palm has really thought out this device and knew that it was now or never for them to get back in the game.

  • Synergy the technology that is used to synchronize contacts online profiles and information has been well thought out. Chats are synchronized between social networking sites as well as email and instant messaging. The way that items syncronize such as events on Facebook are the little things that will make the Palm Pre the leader in the smartphone market.
  • When the phone is on the touchstone and it receives an incoming call, you can pick it up and it will instantly answer the call.
  • If you are on a call and place it on the touchstone it will immedieatly change the call to the speakerphone.
  • Images in emails are shown at the bottom of the email and look smooth and simple.
  • Google Talk and AOL chat are enabled by default.
  • Multiple Google accounts are supported.
  • When you are working on another task (document creation etc.) and someone calls, the device does not take focus away from your task. It is displayed at the bottom of the screen and lets you ignore it and keep working without disrupting you.
  • When using the music player you switch songs by swiping your finger on the screen.
  • Links to the Amazon MP3 store
  • The feel of the device is described by a spectator as a “Polished River Stone” which the demonstrator says was in fact the inspiration for the design.
  • Calendar will currently sync with Google, Outlook and Facebook.

The demonstrator says there are many additional features in the works that might not be in the final product release.  These are assumed to be added by updates later on post release.  Overall webOS is really shaping up to be an excellent operating system and it really amazes me with how smooth the operation of the device is.  Having used PDA’s and Smartphones since they first came out I am happy to see that the market is finally getting some quality products between Palm, Android and Apple.  This is quite a jump from the very first Palm Pilot.  I still have my original Palm Pilot does anyone else?
