defrag

One of the many applications to be updated with Windows 7 is Defrag.  It has continuously gotten more powerful over the years especially with Vista and then the release of Vista SP1.  The release of Windows 7 is no different and yet again Defrag is getting some very nice updates.

/a Perform analysis on the specified disks.
/c Perform the operation on all disks.
/d Perform defragmentation on the specified disks.
/e Perform the operation on all disks except those specified.
/f Perform free space consolidation on the specified disks.
/h Run the operation at higher priority.
/r Run the operation on each disk in parallel.
/t Track an operation already in progress on the specified disk.
/u Print the progress of the operation on the screen.
/v Print verbose output containing the disk’s fragmentation statistics.

My favorite of all of these is the ability to defrag  multiple hard drives at the same time.  This can be very helpful when you are working on someone else’s computer and need to get things done in a hurry.  Another very good option is the ability to run defrag.exe at a higher priority.  This can help to defrag a hard drive in less time by keeping background processes from slowing down defrag.exe.
