Mary Jo-Foley has brought up the point that the Windows 7 Beta was supposed to be “Feature-Complete”. Basically that means that whatever components are going to be included in the final release to retailers and OEM’s will be the same as what is included in the beta. And as she notes many people that have downloaded the beta from torrent sites have commented that there doesn’t appear to be anything that has been added or changed compared to previous builds. But wait, isn’t that the point? It’s supposed to be the SAME!

With Vista one of the huge mistakes that Microsoft made was adding new features throughout the beta testing process. Two of the programs that were major victims of this were Media Center and Mobile Device Center. Both had severe issues even after Vista was released. Mobile Device Center was even pulled from the final release of Vista and since then has only available by download via Windows Update. It would appear that Microsoft has even decided with Windows 7 to exclude the Mobile Device Center from the final release as its not currently in the beta. Hopefully Microsoft doesn’t get like a kid at Christmas and add additional things to the final release.
