Microsoft has finally listened regarding the UAC vulnerability that has been found in Windows 7.  After countless people have been blogging about it and continuing to find additional problems with it Microsoft has given in and fixed the problem.

They still believe that for the most part it is only a perceived vulnerability and that the malware needs a way to get onto the machine.  They have been working to actually increase the security for Windows 7 over Windows Vista and the UAC issue was becoming too big for them to ignore.  While UAC can be very annoying it has been an extremely effective way to stop malware from penetrating a system.

The biggest security hole of any operating system is the user.  When Windows Vista came out it was only a matter of days until heavily infected machines started to show up but consistently it was due to ignorant users.  For the malware to penetrate the machine they needed to allow it which frequently they did.  But for the few that clicked “Allow” on every UAC the multitude clicked “Deny” because they didn’t know what was prompting them.

Thank you Windows Engineering Team for doing the right thing on this one and listening to the critics.
