Remember the MemoryUp application for the Google Android phone?  Well Google investigated the application after the very loud outcry of the Android community.  To many people’s surprise the application is not malicious and does not cause any damage to users phones.  Many users have defended the application stating that the reason was due to improper installs or other ID10T errors.

The fact that it is not malware is good for those that have installed the application and may in fact have brought enough attention to the situation to make Google more cautious in the future.  The way the marketplace is designed right now could easily be exploited by malware creators.

Smartphone malware is still a very new concept but is starting to be an issue.  Last week Kaspersky announced that there is a malware application for Symbian phones that is tricking the users into transferring money from one account to another.  Smartphones are going to be a very hot target for malware writers once they see ways that they can make money from exploiting them.
