cubaCuba announced this week it is launching their own version of Linux to replace Microsoft Windows on the communist island.  Apparently Windows is too “Capitalista” for them.  More than likely it is getting to be too difficult for them to try and override the piracy protection.

Cuba is following a long line of countries moving to Linux in search of a less costly and yet efficient operating system.  At this point there is not a lot of information regarding what flavor of Linux they will be using other than it’s codename of “Nova”.  What will be interesting is to see just what they end up with and if it is based off of a common distribution like Ubuntu.  More than likely it won’t be released to the rest of us when it’s ready.
